**UPDATE: We've had great responses so far...We're up to 56 current vehicles and 25 previous vehicles. I'm putting my Excel skills to work, so let's keep 'em coming. I'll bump this a few more times in the next few days and post results next week.**
So, I jumped into my Accord this morning to see I just missed the 286k mileage mark when I got home last night. This is one of three of my cars to far surpass the 200k mark, and I am now 13,999 miles away from hitting my goal of 300k. So, that got me thinking....Let's have a challenge....
Who was the highest mileage cars on Oppositelock?
As far as I know, this has not been done before. Because I'm such a nerd, let's split this up into two categories...current vehicles and previous vehicles. I'll bump this a couple times a day from now through the weekend, and I'll post results next week. Please provide the mileage, the make and model of the vehicle, and a one liner description of it. Pics of the odometer and/or vehicle would be great but not necessary. We will just go off the honor system, because if you feel obligated to lie on the internet about the mileage of your car to a bunch of random motoring enthusiasts, I think we have bigger problems than corrupt results.

The Odometer on my old 318is E30 broke at 276k and I drove it for another 6 months after, then sold it to some guy who still drives it.
EDIT: It was a 1991, silver, and loud.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:40 |

Does this put me in the list considering less than 10 people have responded so far? I got 5.5k miles. \o/
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:40 |

I'm probably not even in the running, but my highest-mileage vehicle is my '99 Mitsubishi Galant at 124K miles.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:42 |

I won't even post my current ride (too "new"), but my 1988 Cherokee had over 290,000 miles when I wrecked it. It was a fun ride and was thiiiiiis close to getting the stroker motor installed.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:44 |
|
66k miles on my car.... But my mom's Minivan has 133k miles. I think we should list this based on newness and mileage. So like, a 1994 car with 200k miles is 20 years old, so a ratio of 10. But say, a 2008 car with 140k miles has a ratio of 23.3
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:45 |

For previous cars, my 1996 Accord EX had 247,000 when I sold it.

1999 Ford Ranger 256k, I still own it and wife drives it daily.
1997 Nissan Pathfinder 206k, my son drives it every day.

Current car is 95 Range Rover with 293k. Previous 91 Ford Explorer with +350k and its still daily driven by its new owner

mine's the one on the left (ef). 1989. no rust, really clean. 216k.

I'm nowhere near you guys. My Kia Soul has just under 19k and the wife's passat has just under 102k.
Past cars: 88 Isuzu pickup died at 240k, 89 Volvo 240 with indeterminate mileage, but probably close to 300k.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:47 |

I've got 208k on my 86 Honda Accord LXi, still running strong, except for the control arms, the slippage, the random overheating bouts, random noises, and sticky shifting, it runs great!
![]() 03/06/2014 at 09:47 |

I had an 89 Toyota Camry with a V6 that lasted 222,222 miles, it died a back fiery death after it spewed coolant everywhere after a tuneup that only was able to replace 5 of 6 spark plugs. One was frozen in place and I believe that was the ultimate demise.
(Car pictured is similar but not enough rust)

My Integra GS-R had over 220k when I gave it to my brother, who went on to trade it to his ex to get his RSX back...

2002 Outback with 203k. Sadly it won't be going much further. It's beginning to have multiple organ failure. Just trying to nurse it along as far as possible at this point.

I try to keep it under 200K now, my 1988 90 quattro has 262K on it though. My 505 turbo s wagon has 187K
Previous - 84 Mercedes w123 300TD with 631K when the odometer gave up (I still drove it)
85 Audi 5000S Avant with a whopping 414K on it when I sold it
89 n/a Saab 900 with 369K when I sold it
86 Audi 5000CS turbo quattro avant with 338K on it when I sold it.
I have pics of all of these somewhere. I will poke around

the highest mileage car in my family right now is a sub-50K '06 Hyundai elantra
that's not counting siblings who have moved out, or family abroad

I rolled the odometer on my 82 GPz550 just before I gave it away. Pretty impressive for an early 80s sport bike engine.
Cars I usually get out of when I start spending more on repairs than routine maintenance. That's usually ~130k recently.

Are you a master mechanic? Any Land Rover product with more than 80k around the Charlotte area seems to have been relegated to swapped-engine-trail-rig or oversized-chrome-rims-urban-assault-vehicle duty.
Of course, when new, most were grocery getters for rich lake trash trophy wives...

1996 Honda Civic Hatchback CX, original everything but struts and shocks, and wheels. I purchased it with 315,000 miles. Drove it 2 hours home, it sounded like a diesel.
I replaced the interior, the engine/trans with some parts I just happened to have hanging about, various normal wear items (brakes etc), fixed the bumpers and fenders. And sent her on her way.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 10:02 |

The "white truck" we have is a 1992 or 1993 Chevrolet 1500 extended cab around 360k. We are not exactly sure the real figure because somewhere just over 300k the odometer stopped working for a few years. It's back working now.
The truck was bough used in 1992 (I think) and has been a random work truck and used for some of the family to commute with. The engine has never been opened (standard bullet proof 350), and the clutch wasn't changed until after 200k miles if I remember right. Right now it's living down at my sisters place for hauling stuff around they don't want to put in their STI or Cooper.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 10:04 |

My Land Cruiser has Over 266,000. Its had over-sized tires on it for the last 6 years and I've never bothered to adjust the speedo/odometer so its higher than that in actuality. Original everything except a new suspension (lift) and other normal wear items.

My younger brother had a 240 wagon that was driven for over a decade with the odo stuck at... 380, I think. Probably had a half-mil when we said goodbye.

Everything I drive is old and high mileage'd
Current - The '98 Camry is at 211,700, the wife's CX-9 is just over 101,000
Oh, and the Trans Am has/had around 34k or 134k on it the last time it was on the road. Maybe. Not sure what cluster was in it when that was recorded on the oil change sticker back in 1999.
Previously I have had a 260k mile Subaru, a 220k Bravada, a 210k Silverado, and a bunch others in the 100's.

237k on my 97 XJ. It's older than one of my sisters.
One tiny rust spot near the gas cap, and despite what the seller told me, I'm pretty confident the engine has not been rebuilt yet.

My current car is a 2000 Buick LeSabre with 220,000 miles
Previous car was a 1991 Chevy Lumina with 260,000 miles that we got rid of because the cost of replacing the main transmission seal was more than the car was worth

Current Cars: 1982 Volvo 242 race car 15,700 miles (almost half of that is on the track). 2014 Ford Fiesta ST, 6700 miles +/-
Past cars: Form most to least: 1992 Alfa Romeo 164-S 430,000+ miles when I sold it. Why the fuck did I do that? I put 115,000 miles on that car in ONE year, mostly because I just couldn't stop driving it...
1989 Mazda Protege LX 380,000 +/- when I drove it to junk yard. Too much rust.
1997 Buick LeSabre 326,700 miles when the trans blew up.
1998 Volvo V70 AWD (with some mods), 197,000+ when I sold it, that thing was a money-pit and a general dissaster. Very quick, and very comfortable though.
2000 Toyota Corolla CE 153,000+, when it was totalled in an accident.
Everything else has had less than 100K when it left my possession.

By no means. Just do the usual PM and it has stayed healthy. It defiantly started life as a mall cruiser which is why it probably is still going so well now.
Sounds like Charlotte would be a good market to sell it in.

My old F-250 PowerStroke Diesel had just over 255,000 miles before we traded it in. It still ran perfectly original motor, trans, turbo, injectors, everything. Only thing I ever had to replace were the batteries, the alternator, and the water pump. I still regret that it was the most reliable vehicle in the world and you could abuse the piss out of it. I miss her dearly.

High miler here.
1996 Volvo 850 Turbo sportswagon
221,402 miles as of this morning. It's been my only car and my daily driver for a while now so the miles keep piling up. The 850 still retains its original engine, trans and turbocharger and still runs fantastic. I plan on keeping this car for many many more miles.

Yup, one of the best thing Mazda has made recently.
Except for the transfer cases on the AWDs.... ours just happens to be in the shop today (thank you extended powertrain warranty!) for it, and possibly more if I can get it covered, rather than fixing it myself.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 13:37 |

I read about the problem somewhere a while back and had them change the fluid at 100k. Ours is an '08 - does it affect all of them? Anything one can do to prevent issues?
Nice going with the warranty; always good when those pay off.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 14:03 |

Mine is an 08 as well. Changing the fluid helps, but we've seen them fail at 10, 20, 40, 80k. Not sure what it is that makes them go.
Oh yeah, source: I work at a Mazda dealer.

I feel like im just counting down the days. I try to put it out of my mind, but its hard when you are 50 miles from anything. I have so much to fix that its low down on my list...just waiting there.

![]() 03/06/2014 at 15:30 |

Oil pump gasket, main seal, front inner axle seals and birfields, rotors, rear drive shaft u-joints, lift kit.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 15:36 |
|
Maybe we got a good one... I've been religious with maintenance, too.
What's the approx. cost, out of warranty?
![]() 03/06/2014 at 15:39 |
|
Yeah that's a bit. Did my front axle about 4 years ago so they are good for a while. Engine stuff I don't care about. Drive shaft U joints is a good idea. I got a new front shaft with my lift but the rears are original.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 15:47 |
|
Baby Jeep, you say?
![]() 03/06/2014 at 15:48 |
|
I got a new front shaft not long ago and it fixed some problems, but there is a lot of driveline shunt that's been creeping up lately and im hoping its the drifeshaft and not the transmission (just had the fluid replaced and it started getting worse about the same time). I noticed the PS side knuckle grease is getting a little thin, its not dripping, but I am loosing it faster than normal and I think the inner seal is starting to weap. I don't care about the oil issue except that im sick of leaving a huge mess wherever I go, im not allowed in the inlwas driveway, for example. There is also the breather mod, new front seats (and/or leather with heaters) and I want to get a new OEM dizzy since the one the previous owner put on is Chinese and its causing me problems.

I owned a 1992 Geo Prizm that had about 283,000 miles on it when I eventually traded it in for a 1996 Mazda 626. My current Focus has just over 105,000 on it, and I can't stand it. It's my motivation to improve my financial situation so I can purchase a 2015 Mazda 2 in a few years.

I wish. I work in parts and never has Mazda been so tight lipped about new products. I usually learn more on Jalopnik than I do from Mazda.
Although one of our techs was in school and was told the Mazda2 will have a 1.3L SKYACTIV and with a CVT will get 50MPG.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 17:04 |

Wow, quite a few over 200K. I've yet to break that, but my '97 Ram has 177K (318, 1500) and the GF's '00 Stratus has 168K. Thanks to the rust up here and being 14 years old, it's about ready, but the truck will stick around a while.
![]() 03/06/2014 at 22:37 |

Nothing better than a red Volvo wagon. My '93 is slightly behind at about 218,000. It's all original too, but I'm hoping to replace my turbo with your bigger turbo for more boost.
